Podcast: This episode we break open the importance of friendships that challenge and point us back to our faith.

“Friendship ... is born at the moment when one man says to another "What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . .”
C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

C.S. Lewis admittedly has a lot of really great quotes and insights about friendship. But, there is something that resonates when he puts into words what we all feel when we found that friends that "just gets us." When you have a connection to someone after sharing a part of yourself that you thought you were alone in.

A lot of my experiences lately have been me thinking I'm the only one who struggles with not yelling at their kids on a daily basis, or like I can't give one more ounce of energy to my husband, or that there are all these things that I want to do with my life and I feel like it's difficult to just "be." And I feel alone...until a sweet friend says "Oh yeah, me too girl!" And it's like you breathe this sigh of relief because you now know you are not crazy or losing it and there is solidarity.

And isn't it even better when you find that person who knows the struggle but also makes you laugh? Like you both (for some reason) still think Napolean Dynamite is really funny or still pretend your Flavor Flav and it's amazing. Friendship speaks to the heart, because we all get to choose it. It's not like your family who you're kind of just stuck with and either make it work or don't. Both people get to choose to be in this.

That's also why it's really hard when it doesn't work out. Usually, by the time your an adult you've had at least 1 friendship that didn't quite make it. Sometimes it's super dramatic and sometimes they just fade away. But, there's usually this heartache that accompanies it and sometimes it's hard to trust again or believe that you will ever find another "best fried" or even good friend.

But the amazing thing is that God provides. I thought after a really hard broken friendship and lots of putting myself out there, that I would never find people who will just "get me." But, maybe a month after begging God in prayer a moms group formed at our church and got bigger and bigger. And I started meeting other women who knew my story, who felt it and loved it because it was also their own. We all craved this understanding and laughter from each other. So even when it's hard -and sometimes it takes a long time- God will not forsake or abandon you. He will comfort you and He will provide as long as you say "yes."
