Stubits & Mackes Group

by Connect Team

Sep 26, 2019

Our group has been a true gift from God to each of us. It has felt like the Lord had a hand in bringing all of us together AND in keeping us together. We've been at this for over four years now, coming together twice a month to share our laughter and good times, to help each other through some of life's most trying challenges, and to learn about our faith and witness together what God seems to be doing in each of our lives. We have come to regard one another as members of one big, very happy, very loud and proud family. One member of the group wryly offers that "we put the 'fun' in 'dysfunctional' and it's obvious from comments such as this that we can share just about anything with one another. Achieving this level of authentic community has been about the best blessing of all.

People in our group have walked with each other through the sickness of siblings, the struggles of our children; we have accompanied each other as members of our group completed the journey into full communion with the Catholic Church even while abiding peacefully with one another as other members of the group retain membership within the Lutheran communion. The prayers of this Connect Group have "traveled" several states away to do battle and lift up ailing and broken family members of the group whom they had yet to even meet or get to know. Likewise members of this group have made physical journeys to travel out of state to help group members shoulder the burden of caring for a dying parent. In fact at the hour of death and in the days and weeks of grieving such a loss, this group shone brightly a love and faithfulness that looked very much like the face of Christ.

Some of the group are quick to point out the loving direction of our lead facilitator whom we call our group's secret ingredient. Still, it's clear that God is doing something new at Prince of Peace and we are each so pleased to have said "yes" to the invitation to join together into the family of Connect and walk closely with one another along The Way of Christ who brought us together and made us His own.
