Began in 1975, Stephen Ministry is a world-wide ministry, representing more than 180 Christian denominations, across the U.S. and Canada and in 30 other countries. More than 600,000 laypeople have received Stephen Ministry training and more than one-and-a-half-million people have had a Stephen Minister to walk with them, providing one-on-one Christian care during tough times.
Stephen Ministry at POP began in 2000 and continues today. Stephen Ministers are caring and committed men and women, who are ready to “walk the journey” with people who are hurting. While not counselors, Stephen Ministers provide one-on-one care to people who are experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, to name a few. The caring relationship is a formal, confidential commitment by the Stephen Minister to provide care by meeting with their care-receiver once a week for an hour. Stephen Ministry at POP serves both Anglo and Hispanic members of the community, as well as anyone outside of POP, including non-Catholics.
